My daily routine
Our mother bathes all of us children in the family in the morning. She brings the water from the well. We work in the fields and play with our friends. We take our cattle to the forest to graze.
My cousin and I were travelling to our village, when on the way we saw tightrope walking. My cousin and I had an exhilarating feeling and were struck with amazement and awe when we saw a tiny little girl walking on a rope. I remember my teacher told me that it is called funambulism. She held a long pole in hand to balance herself on the rope. It was a spectacular sight for all who were present to witness a girl who was merely of 8 years walking effortlessly on a rope.
India being a secular country allows the people of different religions to live following the principle of universal brotherhood, peaceful co-existence and maintaining fraternity. Irrespective of their cast, creed, colour, gender and religion, all Indians believe in peaceful co-existence. The unity among the people and their culture proves that unity is strength. This unity of our country inspires me a lot.
Bihu is the main festival of Assam. It is linked with the harvesting of crops. There are three Bihus: Rangali, Bhogali, and Kangali Bihu. The first day of Rangali Bihu is called the Garu Bihu, and people bathe the domestic animals and worship them. From the next day, the young boys and girls enjoy Bihu Husari. In the Kangali Bihu, the goddess Lakshmi Devi is worshiped by people. In the Bhogali Bihu, people make meji wooden towers in fields and burn them. This Bihu is also known as the Bihu of feasting.
Indian festivals celebrated by varied cultures add to the colours of the Indian heritage. Some festivals welcome the seasons of the year, like Baishakhi, Holi, etc. Others celebrate religious occasions, like Durga Puja, Diwali, Holi, Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Id-Ul-Zuha, Id-Ul-Fitir, Christmas, etc. In India, every region and every religion has something to celebrate. Vibrant colours, music, and festivity make the country come alive throughout the year.
Our Happy Home
Our house is in a quiet, pretty place. Our family has six people. We are me, my little sister, my father, my mother, and my grandparents. Everyone is sweet to me. We all get up at dawn. My grandfather assists my sister with her homework. My grandmother helps my mother with the housework. We are a happy family.
This is my computer room. I practice computer here everyday. I am preparing my biodata. The room is air-conditioned and has decorative furniture.
Our town is in coastal region, and it is green all year. The rainfall is heavy during the rainy season, and the brooks and streams run fast. We children make paper boats to float in the streams and throw stones at mango trees to knock down mangoes to eat. We get time off from school when the rain is especially heavy.
If you are thinking of sending explosives or guns to the children of Afghanistan, don't. Stop and think. Give them the kinds of things that Santa Claus would give.
I enjoy playing on the swing with my friend. In the month of Sawan (August - the rainy season) swings are hung from the trees.
Every morning, we get ready to go to school. There are many trees on the way. It is very green here. I like to go to school very much. I feel good when I go to school.
We comb our hair standing before a mirror. We dress before the mirror. We clean the mirror with a piece of cloth. We also apply powder etc. standing before the mirror.
